Stories Through the Shutter - A Travel & Photography Podcast
Welcome to Stories Through The Shutter — a travel and photography podcast about exploring real places and capturing them as they are.
This isn’t about bucket-list destinations or perfect conditions. It’s about getting out to everyday locations, slowing down, and learning how to see them differently through your lens.
In each episode, I’ll take you along on photo walks, sharing what I’m seeing, what I’m shooting, and the thought process behind the images — including the hits, the misses, and everything in between.
If you enjoy travel, photography, and finding creativity in ordinary moments, you’re in the right place.
Prior to April 2026, the podcast was mainly based around Campervan travel. Now though, there is a strong photography element, and I am hoping to mix Travel and Photography for future episodes.

In this episode, I dive into the much-discussed Fuji X100VI, a camera that has generated a fair bit of buzz since its release in March 2024. With a compact design and impressive 40.2 megapixel resolution, this fixed-lens camera caught my attention as I sought a smaller, more manageable alternative to my usual Canon gear for travel. I’ll share my journey of switching from a DSLR to this more portable option and why it has worked surprisingly well for me on short trips.
However, no camera is without its flaws, and I'll be candid about what the X100VI lacks—like its fixed lens which can be restrictive and a menu system that’s not quite as intuitive as I'd prefer. I reflect on my experiences with the camera, the balance between its strengths and limitations, and how I ultimately decide which gear to take on my adventures. Whether you're contemplating a similar switch or just curious about this acclaimed travel camera, there's plenty to consider in today's chat. Tune in to hear my thoughts!

Welcome back to another episode of Stories Through The Shutter! Today, I’m taking you along on my adventure to Keyhaven, where I set out on a color shoot despite the grey skies looming overhead. Armed with my Fuji X100VI and a clear plan, my mission was to hunt for those vibrant pops of color that could brighten up the dreary day. In this episode, I’ll share my journey into the marina, the initial successes that kept my spirits high, and the unexpected challenges that tested my focus and creativity.
As I wandered away from the marina, I quickly realized that I had lost my way—both literally and creatively. Frustration crept in as I battled with self-doubt and the uninspiring surroundings. But after a moment of reflection and a much-needed reset, I returned to the marina with a fresh perspective. By slowing down and honing in on the subtleties of color that I had previously overlooked, I was able to transform my experience and capture images that truly resonated with me. Join me as I reflect on how intention can shift our outcomes, reminding us that the creative process is an ebb and flow of focus and patience.

Welcome back to the show! In this episode, I share the unexpected challenges I faced on what was supposed to be an epic road trip through the Rocky Mountains. Just four days before our adventure kicked off, I injured my knee to the point of needing crutches and having to start the holiday in a wheelchair.
This was leaving me petrified about how I could even enjoy the trip. Imagine flying 5,000 miles, only to question whether I’d be able to walk unaided on the trails I was so eager to explore.
Despite starting my journey in a wheelchair and grappling with doubts, I pushed through the pain and discomfort, ultimately conquering a breathtaking hike.
Join me as I recount the ups and downs of this trip—from the struggles of traveling with an injury to the victorious moment I stood at Emerald Lake, soaking in the views that had once seemed impossible. It's a story about resilience and discovering that sometimes, what feels unattainable can be achieved with determination. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to another, albeit it brief, podcast!
Work has taken over my life for the next 4 weeks, so in this episode I am just explaining what may be coming up over the next few weeks, and explaining why there may not be an episode every week.
This could well be the shortest podcast I ever do! But I wanted to keep the regular listeners updated!

The VW California is great. We love it.
It works as an every day car.
It ferries us on holiday.
We eat in it.
We sleep in it.
We play games in it.
But, what are the benefits, and the downsides, of upsizing to something bigger?
In today's podcast, I discuss my thoughts on the pros and cons of moving to a bigger van. From the driving of it, the sleeping and the living in it.
The Question is....is bigger necessarily better?
